Back in the days when the electric bass was not yet a thing, there was a good reason that the whole band stopped playing during a bass solo. Otherwise whatever the double bass player was doing wasn’t going to heard very well. Unfortunately, this “tradition” still is in the back of the head of many musicians (especially in jazz). One way to create some sense of harmony is playing a lot of arpeggios and use voice leading. This kinda puts you into a corner though and limits your choices.

Another situation could be when your playing a solo gig. Or a duo concert with a singer. What other options do you have besides of playing on top of a static loop?

The Secret Sauce

In “Delay Hacks For Bass Solos” I’m going to show you 3 things that you can do with your delay pedal to create more harmonic context and movement in your solos.
